We love doing basic puppy training! Our trained puppies will be ready to go home at 11 weeks of age! Please be advised that training is subject to availability. Puppies from any litter may be reserved for training; however, only a limited number of puppies are held back for training.
When does a trained puppy come home?
Puppies being held back for training are transferred to Puppy Kindergarten with our trainer at or around the age of 8 weeks. Puppies attend training for a full 3 weeks where they will board, train, and stay with their trainer around the clock. Trained puppies go home on your litter’s “Trained Puppy Going Home” scheduled day, which will be provided for you.
What is worked on in the training process?
We love doing basic puppy training! After staying with us for training, your puppy will still need additional and consistent ongoing training - as you will too! We only do puppy training - we do not train adult dogs or behaviorial issues.
For the puppies in training, we work on basic commands, basic leash walking, socialization, and crate/potty training. We get your puppy as far along as we can, but we do not make any promises as each puppy is individual and will grow and learn at their own rate. We only practice positive based training philosophy (treats and rewards, no punishments). If you live in an urban area, your puppy will still need noise desensitization ('treat' your pup when loud noise happens). We will play music for the puppies, and take them to stores and out and about in a safe manner, but we cannot replicate the echoing of fire trucks and jack hammers amongst tall buildings. We will also take your puppy to the vet for boosters shots needed while in our care, but we will need reimbursement (exact amount) --- same for the purchase of a crate. We will buy the collar, leash, harness (if needed). We provide the food and toys while they are staying with us unless yours is on a special diet and supplements or medications.
We only train puppies! For any results, we have a one month minimum (we are slightly flexible as long as your expectations are in line) which helps them grow up a bit while we are trying to get them to learn to hold it and also get them outside to "do business" every couple of hours. We give them playtime with puppies that are of similar size, age, and temperment - and with safe adult dogs.
All the puppies that we have done this for so far have come back with rave reviews on how we have started them. Some stay for one month and many have stayed for several months. We do suggest that 6 months is a maximum as adjusting after this age to a new home can be a struggle for a pup.
The rate for this puppy training and board program is $70/day, plus reimbursement for vet visits and crate (if applicable). This includes boarding (food and crate train), bathing, trips to vet if needed, some socialization events, leash training, basic command training. Most people do about a month...
Things we work on:
~ Basic commands such as sit, down, shake, stay
~ Crate and potty training
~ Basic leash walking (usually puppy will need additional work around noises, grates, and staying on one side in a busy walkway)
~ Housetraining (will stay IN our homes and be crated or penned when we can't watch them closely, but they will be taught "no" to curtains and chewing on chair legs, etc. - we practice positive based via treats and "good puppy" verbals and petting)
~ Bathing/grooming pleasant experiences
Yes - we will send updates!
